Project work (2009 – 2010) Woodland Series

I have recently started work on a new series of paintings and prints. Their inspiration has come from my time working in the woods hence the title. This project is still in its infancy stage, but I have completed some of the pieces.

The prints are all woodcuts, printed from recycled M.D.F. blocks

The Paintings

I have only completed two paintings so far, but intend for them to become a series. They are painted on my own recycled paper, mounted on board. The colours are earth, made into egg tempera paint and are collaged with found objects.

In this one you will find twigs and pine cones. There are also feathers and seeds. The lines that you see represent the many pathways and walks through the woodland.

The inspiration for this piece came from seeing the hundreds of feathers left after foxes had fed on their prey. Sometimes their is almost a circle of feather left behind.

These painting are also made to be tactile, so texture and surface play a vital part in their creation.

During 2010 I also hope to put on a fully tactile exhibition, there is new work under construction (some just ideas, some underway), so keep a look out on my exhibition page for more details.
